Engineering Support for NHS Infrastructure: Survey and Design at North Manchester General Hospital

Category: News
Date: 03 February 2026

At DAM Consultants, we’re currently involved in a number of structural engineering and surveying projects across North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH), supporting the wider programme of estate improvements across the site.

The article highlights just one of those projects and the combination of technical and on‑site expertise our team delivers on complex NHS infrastructure schemes.

As part of our ongoing work, our engineers carried out detailed structural surveys on five existing gantries serving the hospital wards. Following the initial visual inspections, we progressed to a full series of 3D digital surveys, providing an accurate record of the existing structures and forming the basis for engineering assessment and redesign.

Using the survey data, our team completed a full design modification of the new gantries, covering structural analysis, updated detailing and coordinated information suitable for specialist fabrication. We then produced all necessary steel fabrication drawings to move the works from early concept into the construction phase.

Working collaboratively with Graham Construction, we provided a range of engineering and project support services including:

  • Structural advice
  • 3D survey teams
  • Concrete testing
  • Structural testing
  • Steel detailing
  • Temporary works
  • Design and checking services

This project forms just one part of the wider programme of work that DAM Consultants is delivering across North Manchester General Hospital. It demonstrates how our team combines technical structural engineering, accurate 3D surveying and Committed Collaboration to support the delivery of complex healthcare construction projects from Concept to Construction ready information.
